Sports mouthguards in JLT, Dubai

A custom sports mouthguard is made from a digital scan of your teeth, so it fits precisely, stays in place on impact and lets you breathe and talk more easily than a shop-bought guard. Hey Dental in JLT makes custom mouthguards for adults and children, personalised in your colours and with your initials, and is the official dental partner of the Dubai Exiles rugby club. Custom mouthguards start from AED 550.

Hey Dental is proud to be the official dental partner of the Dubai Exiles. Rugby is one of the highest-risk sports for dental injuries, and a well-fitted mouthguard is the simplest protection a player can have. Whether you play for the Exiles or another club, at school or for fun, we make the same custom guards for every player.

Why a custom mouthguard

A mouthguard spreads the force of a knock across the teeth and jaw, cushioning impacts that could otherwise chip, crack or knock out a tooth. How well it does that depends on fit.

The best mouthguard is the one a player actually keeps in. Custom guards are thinner where they can be and thicker where it matters, which is why players tend to wear them.

Why the fit makes the difference.

  1. ICustom-fittedMade from a scan, an even layer that follows every tooth and stays in place on impact.
  2. IIBoil-and-biteThicker and uneven, with gaps where it does not touch, so it can shift when you are hit.
  3. IIIWhat it protectsTeeth, jaw and lips, by spreading the force of a knock across the whole arch.

Thin where it can be, thick where it matters, so players keep it in.

Made in your colours, with your initials

Your guard can be personalised in your choice of colour, including your club or team colours, and can carry your initials, so it is easy to spot in a kit bag and never mixed up with a teammate’s.

How we make your mouthguard

  1. Check-up and scan. We check the teeth and gums are healthy and take a digital scan. No messy impression trays.
  2. Design. The guard is made to your bite and your sport, in the colours you choose, with your initials if you would like them.
  3. Fitting. You try it in, and we check comfort, fit, breathing and speech before you leave.
  4. Season checks. Bring it to your check-ups so we can check wear and fit.

Mouthguards for children and teenagers

Children’s teeth and jaws change quickly, so a guard that fitted at the start of the season can be loose by the end of it. We check fit at each visit and advise when it needs replacing. If your child has braces, we will make a guard designed to fit over them. See children’s dentistry.

Caring for your mouthguard

  • Rinse it in cool water after every use and let it air-dry
  • Keep it in a ventilated case, out of a hot car or kit bag in the sun, which can warp it
  • Clean it with a soft toothbrush and mild soap; avoid hot water
  • Never share it, and replace it if it is split, loose or bitten through

Sports mouthguards: your questions

Is a custom mouthguard better than a boil-and-bite guard?

Yes, for most players. A custom guard is made to the exact shape of your teeth, so it stays in place, covers the teeth evenly and is thinner where it can be. That makes it more comfortable to wear for a whole match, easier to breathe and talk through, and more likely to actually be worn.

Which sports need a mouthguard?

Any sport with contact, falls or fast-moving balls and sticks: rugby, hockey, boxing, martial arts and MMA, basketball, netball, cricket close fielding, skateboarding and many more. Rugby clubs and school sports programmes often require one.

How often should a mouthguard be replaced?

Adults usually replace a guard every season, or sooner if it is damaged, loose or has been bitten through. Children's mouths change quickly as teeth come through, so their guards often need replacing more often. Bring your guard to your check-up and we will check the fit.

Can I wear a mouthguard with braces or Invisalign?

Yes. Players with fixed braces need a guard designed to fit over brackets, and it may need adjusting as teeth move. With Invisalign, take the aligners out for training and matches and wear your mouthguard instead. Ask us or your orthodontist which suits your treatment.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out during a game?

Find the tooth, hold it by the crown not the root, rinse it gently in milk and either put it back in the socket or keep it in milk. Call us straight away on +971 4 450 8717: re-implantation works best within the first hour. A knocked-out baby tooth should not be put back.
