Professional whitening or a kit from the shop?
Shop-bought strips, charcoal pastes and LED kits rarely change the underlying shade of your teeth, and some can irritate the gums or wear the surface. Professional whitening uses a dentist-prescribed gel that lifts the natural colour of the tooth itself, after we have checked that your teeth and gums are healthy enough for it.

Two ways to lift the shade, and what whitening does not change.
- IZoom in clinicA whitening gel activated by a special light, applied by our team with your gums protected. A noticeable lift in one visit.
- IIHome traysThin trays made to fit your teeth, worn with a dentist-prescribed gel at home. A gradual change you control, over about two weeks.
- IIICrowns and fillingsWhitening lightens natural enamel and dentine only. Crowns, veneers and fillings keep their colour, so we check them first.
Many patients combine the two: Zoom for a fast start, trays to finish and top up.
Zoom in-clinic whitening
Zoom is done in the clinic in a single visit. We protect your gums, apply the whitening gel and activate it with the Zoom light, repeating in short cycles while we keep you comfortable. It suits anyone who wants a noticeable change quickly, for example before a wedding or a big event.
Home whitening trays
For home whitening we make thin trays that fit your teeth exactly, from a scan or impressions taken at the clinic. You wear them with a dentist-prescribed gel for a set time each day, usually over about two weeks, and we review your progress. The change is gradual and you stay in control of how light you go. Keep your trays: they can be used again with fresh gel to top up your result.
Using both
Many patients combine the two: Zoom for a fast start, then home trays to finish and to top up later. If you are having Invisalign with us, whitening at the end of treatment is included in your package.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, when it is assessed and supervised by a dentist. Before whitening we check for decay, gum disease and worn or cracked teeth, and treat anything that needs attention first. Some people notice temporary sensitivity during or after whitening; it usually settles within a few days, and we can adjust the strength or timing for you.
Whitening only lightens natural teeth. Crowns, veneers and fillings keep their colour, so if you have any at the front we will show you how they will look next to your whitened teeth, and whether any should be replaced afterwards to match. If you are planning veneers, we whiten first so the porcelain can be matched to your new shade.
How long do whitening results last?
Results fade gradually rather than disappearing. How long they last depends on your diet and habits: tea, coffee, red wine, curries and smoking all bring stains back sooner. Regular hygiene visits help, and a short top-up with your home trays keeps the shade where you want it.
