Calm, positive dentistry for children
At Hey Dental we believe a child’s early dental experiences shape how they feel about the dentist for life. Our children’s dentistry is clinically thorough but age-appropriate, encouraging and easy to understand, for children and for parents. We focus on prevention first, and on spotting problems while they are small.
When should my child first see a dentist?
By their first birthday, or as soon as the first teeth appear. That first visit is short and friendly: a ride in the chair, a count of the teeth, and a conversation with you about brushing, bottles, snacks and thumb-sucking. Coming early means the clinic is familiar long before anything needs doing.
What children’s dentistry includes
| Service | Why it matters | From |
|---|---|---|
| Check-up | Monitors teeth, gums and how the adult teeth are developing | AED 300 |
| Professional clean | Removes plaque and staining children can’t reach | Included with check-up where needed |
| Fluoride varnish | Strengthens enamel against decay | On consultation |
| Fissure sealants | Seals the grooves of back teeth, where most childhood decay starts | On consultation |
| Fillings | Tooth-coloured repairs for baby and adult teeth | On consultation |
| Orthodontic screening | Spots crowding and bite problems early, from around age 7 | Part of routine check-ups |
| Sports mouthguards | Protects teeth during contact sports | On consultation |
We complete insurance claim paperwork for you, and children’s appointments can be booked back-to-back with parents’ check-ups.
How we help nervous children
Many children are nervous at first, and some have had a difficult experience elsewhere. We go at their pace:
- Tell, show, do. We explain each step in simple words and show the instruments before we use them.
- Short, successful visits. We would rather finish early on a good note than push through.
- Parents nearby. Younger children usually stay on a parent’s lap or with a parent in the room.
- Praise, not pressure. Children leave knowing they did well.
If your child is very anxious, tell us when you book and we will plan a longer, gentler first visit.
Protecting teeth at every stage
- Baby teeth (6 months to 6 years). Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth and help with speech and eating, so decay in them still matters. Brushing twice a day with a smear of fluoride toothpaste, and limiting sugary drinks between meals, makes the biggest difference.
- Mixed teeth (6 to 12 years). The first adult molars arrive around age six and are the most decay-prone teeth in the mouth, which is when sealants help most. We also watch for crowding.
- Teenage years. Sports, snacks and braces bring new risks. We tailor cleaning advice, and our Specialist Orthodontist can assess straightening in the same clinic. See orthodontics.
If your child has a dental emergency
For a knocked-out adult tooth, hold it by the crown, not the root, keep it in milk and call us straight away on +971 4 450 8717: re-implantation works best within the first hour. A knocked-out baby tooth should not be put back. For toothache or a broken tooth, we keep same-day emergency appointments every day.
