At Hey Dental in JLT every veneer case is planned with digital smile design and a trial smile in your own mouth, so you see and approve the result before anything is permanent. What veneers can change

A veneer covers the front surface of a tooth. It can make teeth that are chipped, worn, uneven in length or stubbornly discoloured look whole and even again, and it can close small gaps. Because porcelain does not stain, veneers are often chosen when whitening alone cannot reach the shade you want.

Veneers are not the answer for every smile. If your teeth are crowded, we usually straighten them first with Invisalign rather than hide crowding under thicker veneers. If whitening and a little bonding would give you what you want, we will tell you.

Porcelain veneers or composite bonding?

Both change the shape and colour of a tooth. Porcelain is made in a laboratory and lasts longer; composite is added directly to the tooth in one visit and can be repaired.

Veneers suit healthy teeth and gums. Before we plan them we check three things:

  • Health first. Any decay or gum disease is treated before cosmetic work begins.
  • Your bite. If you grind or clench, we protect your teeth first, usually with a night guard, because grinding shortens the life of any veneer.
  • Position. Where teeth are crowded or rotated, straightening first keeps more of your own tooth and gives a better, longer-lasting result.

Your veneers, step by step

  1. Consultation. We talk through what you would like to change, take photographs and an iTero 3D scan, and take X-rays where the bite is involved.
  2. Design. We design your new smile digitally, considering your face, lip line and the proportions of each tooth.
  3. Trial smile. A temporary mock-up of the design is placed over your teeth so you can see and feel the shape and length before anything is permanent. We adjust it until you are happy.
  4. Preparation and bonding. Teeth are prepared as conservatively as your case allows, sometimes not at all, and the laboratory-made veneers are bonded in place. Most cases take two to three visits; your dentist confirms the number at your consultation.
  5. Aftercare. A review visit, regular hygiene appointments and a night guard if you grind keep your veneers looking their best.

If you would like to lighten your other teeth, we whiten before making the veneers so the porcelain can be matched to your new shade. See teeth whitening.

How long do veneers last?

With good care and regular check-ups, porcelain veneers commonly last 10 to 15 years or more. Composite veneers and bonding usually need polishing or repair sooner, often after around five to seven years. Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth, keep up your hygiene visits and avoid biting very hard objects such as ice or pen tops. If you grind at night, wear your night guard.

Your total depends on how many teeth are involved, whether porcelain or composite suits you better, and whether any treatment such as whitening or straightening is needed first. You receive a written, itemised plan before you decide. Interest-free instalments are available through Tabby or Mamo, subject to their approval (AED 300 service charge), and larger plans can be staged to spread the cost.

Veneers are often one part of a smile makeover, where several treatments are planned together.

Veneers: your questions

Do veneers damage your teeth?

Porcelain veneers need a thin layer of enamel to be prepared on the front of the tooth in many cases, but we keep preparation as conservative as your case allows, and sometimes none is needed. Composite veneers and bonding usually need no preparation at all.

What is the difference between veneers and composite bonding?

Porcelain veneers are thin custom-made shells bonded to the front of the teeth; they are very stain-resistant and long-lasting. Composite bonding uses tooth-coloured resin shaped directly on the tooth in one visit and usually needs little or no preparation. Your dentist will explain which suits your teeth and goals.

Can I see my veneers before they are made?

Yes. We design your smile digitally and then place a trial mock-up over your teeth, so you can see and approve the shape and length before anything permanent is done.

How much do veneers cost in JLT?

Porcelain veneers at our JLT clinic are AED 3,500 per tooth + VAT, and composite bonding is AED 900 per tooth + VAT. Package prices are available for 10 or 20 porcelain veneers. The veneer consultation is AED 300 and is waived if you go ahead with treatment.

How many visits do veneers take?

Porcelain veneers typically take two to three visits: a consultation and design, preparation and records, and fitting. Your dentist confirms the number at your consultation. Composite bonding can often be completed in one visit.

Can veneers be whitened later?

No. Whitening does not change the colour of porcelain or composite. If you would like lighter teeth, we whiten first and then match your veneers to the new shade.

Are veneers covered by insurance?

Cosmetic treatment is often not covered, although restoring a broken or damaged tooth sometimes is. We don't offer direct billing, but we complete the claim paperwork and provide reports for any part you claim.
